My domains remained locked from weeks.
Sander J. Rabinowitz 03.22.07 at 9:11 am
The sudden drop in transfers on March 20 seems a bit curious. Especially seeing that it was a regular business day. –SJR

I would like a statistic on how many domains are *still* missing their authcodes. I really think RF is dragging their feet here. I do not see why every domain can not be assigned a valid authcode globally and have it show up in the respective control panel globally.
Brad 03.22.07 at 12:29 pm
I have successfully transferred the majority of my 57 domain anmes over to eNOM – these are some really great people to work with. Wish I had met them years ago .. but I am having issues just like everyone else with the AUTORIZATION CODES. I have issued a SUPPORT TICKET (which should not be called SUPPORT at all) dating back since 3-12-3007. As of to date, 3-22-07 ; NO ONE HAS RESPONDED. and better yet, no one has responded to the email I was advised to email”risk@registerfly.com”
So, what can be dones so I can transfer my remaining domians? All I see is the authoriazation code”RRP” – am I the only one that notices this?
I have followed the directions that eNom provided to get the authorization code, but anyone out that can help.
ICANN – can you make sure UnifiedNames, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever gets accredited again. These people need to seriously get out of this business and be mandated to sale off all assets and compensate customers for the hardships they have placed on people – innocent and helpless people.
Thanks for what you are enforcing!!

Diego,
You might want to contact eNom just to see if they, by some chance, cannot rescue you from the vices of “Retarded”Fly.

March 20th is when I found out about the meltdown and started transferring my domains. I couldn’t get through via their support ticket system or via telephone to get the authorization codes that were missing. I sent a fax and that night I received an email telling me they couldn’t get them because they were enom sites. I had already tried to contact enom and got no response via email and was on hold forever via phone. On the 21st Registerfly sent me an email with all of the codes their supervisor was magically able to get. I am still waiting for enom or registerfly to authorize the transfer on their end. Registerfly support claims they do not do that, but for the first few domains I was able to transfer they sent emails requiring me to take an additional authorizing step. Meanwhile, I signed up with GoDaddy and they are keeping a list of Registerfly domains for when ICANN lets them transfer the domains.
Yordan S 03.22.07 at 12:55 pm
I think that EPP codes is not absolutely necessary when your domain WHOIS shows eNom as the ICANN Registrar.
I tried to transfer such domain to namecheap.com. They are eNom reseller and I get confirmation email from eNom and now transfer is in progress.
Peter 03.22.07 at 1:26 pm
One thing I’m curious to know is from what viewpoint these stats ARE being issued. I know that I have managedto xfer three domains out from them; one of which was originally held by eNom. Now, none of them are with RegisterFly, however all three still show up in the RegisterFly interface.
In fact, using the RFly whois page only gives me the correct registrant infomration for the one domain that was a .com; the other two .org’s produce pages that still refer to RFly
Bigfoot 03.22.07 at 1:30 pm
Effectively you’re pushing the domain from one part of eNom to another if you go with a reseller of eNom so it makes sense you don’t need the EPP codes. It is probably similar to when eNom pushes the domains to an eNom account, except another middle-man is involved.
Bigfoot 03.22.07 at 1:33 pm
It would also be interesting to see how many attempts were initiated but failed for one reason or another. Many domains are locked in because of their Locked status that can’t be changed, some because the PIR for .org domains has initiated a total lock on the .org domains from RF meaning they can’t go anywhere, not even out!
Bigfoot 03.22.07 at 1:35 pm
The whois information available indicates it is a TUCOWS registered name. RF were a reseller for TUCOWS as well for ccTLD’s. (.tv is a country code one, same as .uk)
As such you can try contacting TUCOWS and hope they can help.

Friends, I have a lot of domain in RF, two days ago I Requested a small bulk transfer for 5 of my best domains at RF, from directI…
after this two days, status of 3 of this domains changed to “pendingTransfer” in whois information. but two of this domains status remained at “OK”.
1- is “pendingTransfer” is a good message? is there a chance that domains with this status beign transfrred ?
2- If I dont success to transfer my domains until 31/03 (the deadline), what will happen to the domains? will I lost all of them?
3- what about that domains that has below 60 days old from registration or transfer date?
I really cant take this stress anymore.
Diego 03.22.07 at 3:32 pm
I got this answer from Robert Oneil from Registerfly tech support.
Hello diego
i did just confrim this and .TV does not need an auth code for transfer
thanks
Robert Oneill
My new registrar, Register.com says I DO need an authcode for transfer… what can I do ?
Any help would be most appreciative, I sent Paul Levins an Email with no reply.
Louis 03.22.07 at 7:56 pm
Still trying to get the auth code for one of my live sites that is at RegisterFly. I tried the emails given, but no word. It just says Auth Code for Authorization Code. Is that the code I’m supposed to use?
Any help, other contact info would be appreciated, otherwise I will just have to hope the bulk transfer is a good one.
Kira 03.22.07 at 9:10 pm
I’ve been desperately trying to get in touch with someone, anyone, at Registerfly.
Due to a chargeback mistake by my credit card (AMEX has acknowledged it was their fault), RF suspended my account and grabbed control of my domains.
Though I authorized AMEX to pay the chargeback fee back in September, RegisterFly never submitted it for payment! Great business ethic. Despite my attempts to contact them over the past several months, my account remains suspended, my domains are due up for renewal next month, and I have no way to fix things!
Luckily my site still works since they never changed the nameserver info. But with RegisterFly listed as the owner, and my inability to even contact anyone, I can’t rectify the situation so I can login, much less transfer out of there. All the so-called helpful contacts people keep listing (the various phone numbers you call for hours and then get hung up on, guys named Oscar and Robert who never respond to their emails) … no one seems to be ALIVE at RF!
I know I’m not the only one in this situation — unable to access my account due to RF’s sloppy customer service and unable to contact anyone. What are we supposed to do?
Yordan S 03.22.07 at 10:53 pm
If your domain WHOIS shows eNom as the ICANN Registrar then go to eNom, open new account and talk with support. They will help with transfer.
O. E. Cruiser Small 03.23.07 at 12:33 am
I have 5 domains with Register Fly. Once of those is registered with ENom according to Register Fly. I tried to renew my domains and was triple charged on my credit card by Register Fly. This was just recently. I have not been able to get ahold of anyone at Register Fly, either by E-Mail or phone. When I do get thru the line, I am put on hold for hours and then they hang up ! Their E-mail just bounces back ! I was able to leave a message one day, BUT, no one called me back.
My Clients are not happy to say the least. I think ICANN should be held responsible as well, and taken to court too!. I will be contacting my bank tomorrow to file charges against Register Fly, and anyone else associated with them.
Brad 03.23.07 at 5:07 am
being overcharged happened to me some time back, and my only recourse was to have my credit card company to issue a chargback and i unfortunately had to cancel my credit card and open a new one.
Matt 03.23.07 at 5:32 am
RegisterFly is STILL using the ‘ICANN Accredited Registrar” seal on the front page! Are they legally allowed to do so until the end of the month? Also, as others have pointed out there’s nothing on their site regarding the whole debacle at all. They’re likely signing up new customers who are completely unaware of the mess. This is not fair for those new people, unbelieveable for us, and a big punch in the eye to ICANN…
Tim Blothers 03.23.07 at 6:20 am
Your posting about Registerfly transfers still paint an accurate picture. NOTHING has been done and everyone’s domains are still being held. Thousands of people are still locked out of managing their domains and getting anyone on the phone for support from ICCAN or Registerfly is a complete joke.
Registerfly claims 2 Million domains registered…maybe they have 900,000 under management, you have the real numbers. 1700 transfer a day or so proves that people still cannot get to their names.
When is ICCAN going to REALLY do something about this?
We see flurries of activity and posts about MUSEUM proposals and Soccer in Lisboa, but limited resources going to real problems. ICANN better get ready to be defendants in lawsuits regarding lost names and customer being locked from managing their intellectual property.
I think this post speaks for thousands of others…
Kira 03.23.07 at 8:52 am
If you were responding to my post, thanks! Unfortunately my problem is that RegisterFly is listed as the owner/registrant of the domain, so enom can’t help. It’s ridiculous since we’ve already repaid them the original fee that was erroneously disputed by Amex. So basically we’ve paid for nothing and RF still “owns” the domain.
Has the NJ Attorney General been informed about this scandal yet?
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:02 am
I’m very sorry to hear this. Try sending your details to transfers@icann.org.

Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:04 am
Will take this comment on board in the RAA discussion. Thanks.

We have issued a notice of termination. There is a 15 day period before that occurs. Glad you got your names transferred.
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:09 am
Yes – I am worried that in spite of us all believing that the problems with RegisterFLy are well known people generally are unaware of the pending termination.
I have placed a separate link on our home page http://www.icann.org calling attention of registrants to the fact that we have issued a notice of termination.
Please tell as many people as possible so they are aware. We are doing media on this. I’m not sure what else we can do at this point
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:12 am
we get these stats from RFly. I can’t comment on the accuracy or preparation. We post them because we said we would and had asked RFly to provide them. If they provide encouragement to people still trying to get transferred they are serving a purpose. They may also provide a focus for RFly to keep transferring if they know they have to publish them.
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:16 am
Re 1: It’s a good sign
re 2: A bulk transfer tyo an accredited registrar will occur
re 3: this is harder to answer. I’m not entirely sure what you are asking sorry? Other registrars have agreed to not delete names whilst they are in the RGP. Does that help?
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:18 am
Sorry Diego. I am getting quite a bit of email and must have missed or seen in it and thought I would come back to you then didn’t. Sorry.
I don’t know the answer. If your new registrar says you do then tell Rob that and get one from him. Let me know how that goes.
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:19 am
If you’ve got the Authcode and you want to transfer, do. Don’t wait any longer
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:23 am
Kira
I am very sorry to hear this. There isn’t a lot you can do other than to keep trying. I wish I could say or do more. People are saying on the blog that Rob O’Neill at rfly is very helpful. DO try that too. I know you reference him as not responding but with many people wanting to transfer I imagine he like many of us caught up in this is getting piles (of email that is).
Use transfers@icann.org as well.
Keep me informed of progress.
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:26 am
We did say to Kevin Medina that the practice of accepting credit card payments without providing service has to stop. Of course that was before we issued a notice of termination.
Re NJ AG if you believe that you have evidence that suggests criminal activity you should approach law enforcement authorities.
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:30 am
Yes – it is outrageous. We have demanded they take down the ICANN logo. They are in violation.
Yesterday I placed on our main site a notice to all registrants that will sit there until the accreditation is terminated. It will then change to say they have been terminated. I too have concerns that there is nothing on their site. We have asked Kevin Medina to do something abt this but he hasn’t.
Please spread the word.
Paul Levins 03.23.07 at 10:42 am

As I have said before, I really understand that you are angry, frustrated and fed up. I can only imagine how hard this is. But I would not be doing many people justice unless I pointed out that what you say about ICANN not doing anything is wrong.
We are handling a very large number of complaints each day at ICANN, solely about RFly.That’s in addition to regular complaints workload that can invlove complaints about any one of the over 860 accredited registrars as well as other work. We are doing all we can under the agreement to terminate their accreditation. We are trying to be an exchange piont for information and help through this blog and by providing staff email addresses to answer questions. We have worked with other registrars to seek agreement that names in in the RGP will not be deleted. We are pursuing Rfly through the courts. We have commenced a process to reform the Accreditation process and agreement which we want feedback on.
We cannot simply arrive at RFly and take over even if we had the resources to do so.
I have no doubt you speak for thousands of others. Please help us to make sure that through word of mouth and your various contacts that people understand exactly what IS happening rather than allowing them to throw up their hands in frustration and ignorance of what is being done. It may not be enough but it’s all that we can do.
If you want to express a view that we should have more compliance power or that there should be changes to the accreditaton process now is the time as we have a major discussion which will lead to expeditious reform.
Andy Melichar 03.23.07 at 11:35 am
In the statement about terminating RegisterFly as an accredited registrar, there is a mention of “once the agreement is terminated, ICANN can approve a bulk transfer to another accredited registrar”
Can anyone clarify this process? Will ICANN take the entire database from RegisterFly and give it to another registrar?
And if so, isn’t there anything ICANN can to in the meantime to help the transition process? Perhaps if us domain holders were to know who the receiving registrar would be, we could begin providing that registrar with documentation on our domains, or otherwise make arrangements with them in a pro-active manner to help get our domains up and running efficiently.
WK 03.23.07 at 11:42 am
Well Paul, We understand You and you understand us. Then in plain english, we, the domain owners want know what MAY BE HAPPEN the 31 / march About Our domains.
You are in a good positions to say us some possible actions, and we habe a better idea than now. If u say some options, all understand you and ICANN are evaluating THESE options. Then , we can have some relief, and all know is not a compromise of you or ICANN choose one of that options.
We all understand ICANN have not the power, but have the right contacts to coordinate a deal between the BIGGEST registrars and pir. All want this affair will be resolved, and ICANN can get REAL POWER for DOIT.
As example , SOMEONE can say us :
”
We are considering this options :
1 * Talk with Pir and others TLD the Allow To transfer without authcodes if the losing registrar is registrar fly.
2 * Talk with Pir and others TLD to give the final owners the Auth codes via a scanned Id, by the same mail who appear in WHOIS.
3 * We have talking with some major and well known REGISTRARS about the transfer the 31 march
4 * We are talking with NamesDirect – Mydomain, Godaddy and others registrars who are helping now , about a special plan. be tuned.
5 * We are talking with whois.sc about they made public availably the domain history of registerfly domains, to help to determine the real actual owner.
Fred Boulton 03.23.07 at 11:47 am
So, ICANN, can you please explain to all of us RF customers what exactly will happen on the 31st March/1st April?
You have invited RF to surrender all details before 31st March and nothing has happened yet, so presumably the early handover will not happen.
How will ICANN retrieve data?
How will RF customers get acccess to their rightful domains?
Samson 03.23.07 at 4:21 pm
The termination notice mentions that the names will be bulk transferred to another accredited registrar. Has ICANN decided who that’s going to be and if so are you allowed to tell us?
Diane 03.23.07 at 5:45 pm
I asked this over on another section of the blog, but since that thread seems to have died off I doubt anyone mayhave seen it.
Let me make this short & sweet (smiles)
I had 4 .com domains that I started trying to renew on Feb 1st 2007, they had expired on Jan 19th but I was within my 30 days renewal period.
RF took the money out of my bank acct via paypal, $31 & change, but the renewals failed.. repeatedly.
I kept trying on & off during feb & into march, they always failed for one reason or another. Then about the 15th of mar I tried again, I didnt even get a success/failure notice & nothing shows up in RFs reports except for where they took the money out of my RF acct but the names didnt renew.
On Mar 17th (nows it changed on WHOIS to the 22nd) someone took 1 of my 4 in-limbo names, after sending me extortion emails of which I retained one for records.
I can still grab my other 3 which I am doing but the 4th has been taken by someone down in the west indies under a business name & is using it for a linkfarm.
Who do I contact to have my stolen domain name released back to me.
I know I’ll have to pay the 9-10 usd to register it which is fine.
I refuse to pay the $95 usd extortion fee nor do I want charges pressed as it isnt really their fault for RF’s screwup.
I just want my domains back & this whole mess cleared up as soon as humanly possible.
Please.
Diane
Diane 03.23.07 at 5:47 pm
Oh yeah, I have printouts of everything I could grab from RF so I can fax or scan/email them as proof of my attempts & whatnot.

Re:3
My understanding is that domains can’t be transferred within 60 days of first registration. The questioner seems to be asking if these can in fact be transferred as part of this bulk transfer.
Jeff Johnson 03.24.07 at 8:08 am
Only a small fraction of people involved in this are aware of it.
Many times there are several levels of disconnect between the true stake holders in a website, and the registrar and person who initially performed the registration.
i crafted some awareness junk video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTViHZIHvlY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsrvUqj6cdU
I get a ton of email now through hd1080i.com , people guessing at a useful email address and begging me for help.
This whole thing is going to crash and burn on March 31st unless an automated recourse is implemented. Protectfly, redemption, authcode RRP, you name it, it all becomes evident when the domain dies off.
MOST whois domain owners are web-designers that come and go, and not the true organizations that rely on their websites.
Most companies dont even realize that ‘own” means rent and that has an expiration of the actual LEASE of thier WEBSITE NAME.
$160 redemption comes as a huge shock to some.
I think maybe a national news item is needed, and this Registerfly event is the use case for that.
Fred Boulton 03.24.07 at 1:22 pm
So, no RF transfers since March 20th and then only 178?
Seems crazy to me!
The records show approx. 10,000 transfers away from RF, so what about the 1,990,000 still to go? With only 5 days to go?
Fred Boulton 03.24.07 at 1:32 pm
So, we’re not getting any replies to these blogs from ICANN any longer, probably they are all in Lisbon.
I find it incredible that in the light of a crisis of this extent that no one from ICANN has stayed behind is giving support. I would think that something as important as the RF crisis warranted 24 x 7 support and advice. Perhaps it isn’t so incredible, nothing that ICANN has suggested on here in the past week works anyway.
We’re completely on our own, people, in the lap of the gods with the outcome of our domain names still clouded and uncertain.
RF still show ICANN Accreditation, tickets and e-mails go unanswered and domains are still locked/not found/no auth codes.
Heike 03.24.07 at 6:29 pm
I had the exact same thing happen. PayPal does nothing, saying that the service is not “tangible” so it is not protected under their regulations.
My domain is gone.
Now for my other domains:
I have attempted to transfer to GoDaddy, but have missing or incorrect auth codes. On April 1st, will ICANN let these registrars just take over our domains? One of my main buslness domains expires 04/05, and I am very worried.
I appreciate any response here.
Fred Boulton 03.24.07 at 9:42 pm
ICANN have not reassured any one of us that on 31st March all will be well and we will be able to access our domain names for transfer, renewal, etc.
All they say is the following:-
“Once the Agreement is terminated, ICANN can approve a bulk transfer of all current RegisterFly domain names to another ICANN Accredited Registrar.”
What does this say, exactly? What does it mean? Can we trust ICANN to handle this correctly?
Does ICANN have access to all of the data that exists at RF?
Can ICANN assure that domain name registrants are going to be held to ransom by a Registrar?
So many things left unsaid, ICANN, we need some reassurance.
Fred Boulton 03.24.07 at 9:43 pm
Should have said “not” going to be held to ransom. Apologies.
Chris 03.24.07 at 9:43 pm
You may be correct about Lisbon and I would also note that it is the weekend.
I think the people at ICANN have done everything they reasonably can at this point, including the extraordinary step of accepting complaints about specific transfer problems and forwarding them to RegisterFly. In my case, that actually got the problem fixed when my RF support tickets and phone calls had not had any results — but that also was just before the dis-accreditation announcement, when RegisterFly still had an incentive to take ICANN seriously.
ICANN has to abide by its contract and give RegisterFly 15 days (running out on March 31st) before they can proceed with the bulk transfer. Between that and RF now knowing it has little left to lose whether it cooperates with ICANN or not, I don’t think there is anything they can do until 31st.
Whether future registrar accreditation agreements should give ICANN greater authority and more immediate means to intervene is being discussed right here on this blog and will be discussed in Lisbon. That, however, doesn’t change the fact the RegisterFly disaster has to be handled under the current agreement.
Fred Boulton 03.24.07 at 9:47 pm
Granted it is the weekend, but this is my point, support, help and advice should be 24 x 7 at this stage.
None of us registrants, domain name managers, etc have any idea of what exactly is going to happen on 31st March or 1st April.
We really do need some reassurance from the Governing Body in whom we have our trust
TheDude 03.25.07 at 4:23 am
My domain was locked at RegisterFly – I managed to get unlocked by locking and relocking from the control panel in RegFly – note – it looks like nothing happens – but you can see the updated who is status from dnsstuff. To see the updated status of your domain and whois information use this link:
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=yourdomain.com&email=on
(Change “yourdomain.com” for your domain name)
For more info on unlocking see this thread:
http://registerflies.com/component/option,com_joomlaboard/Itemid,26/func,view/id,739/catid,5/
A whole bunch of useful FAQ here that might help you transfer – take note of especially of how to push your domain to enom (without an auth code):
http://www.registerflies.com/component/option,com_joomlaboard/Itemid,71/func,view/id,1239/catid,5/
How to get auth code from Reg Fly (this only worked for one of my 4 domains):
http://www.registerflies.com/registerfly-faq-section/how-to-get-authorization-code.html
I initiated a transfer to namecheap of one domain on 23 March (2 days ago) – I was successful in getting an email sent to me to authorise the transfer in spite of the fact that RegFly was listed as the owner (ie protect fly was on) – I had to send a begging email to support@namecheap.com including screen shots of my who is info from my RF account. Note that there is a global permissions setting for locking also (accessible from “Settings” I believe). Note my transfer has not gone thru yet however it seems like it will – I believe that if RF do not respond within 5 days that it goes thru by default – can anyone confirm this?
Bigfoot 03.25.07 at 1:19 pm
I’ve seen the same information although I have yet to experience it.
I’ve managed to initiate transfers on a number of .net domains. They’re sitting “waiting for the registrar to respon”.
I’ve already tried with a group of .uk domain names and when they failed to do the necessary at their end the transfer failed. It may be different for gTLD’s as the ccTLD for the .uk code doesn’t require an Auth Code, but a ‘TAG’ change by the losing registrar.
milen 03.25.07 at 11:39 pm
Can someone tell me what to do when in my account at registerfly i have 14$ + 1 domain to (2012) year?
O. E. Cruiser Small 03.26.07 at 8:16 am
Yesterday an E-Mail address associated with a domain and Website that was active and which I own, kept “Timing out”… So I checked the Website to see if it would come up, and it didn’t.
I then received an E-Mail from RegisterFly.com that said my domain renewal would run out May 2, 2007, and that I needed to renew this domain. I had already renewed the domain the first of March, BUT, RF did not renew it! Instead they charged my account 3 times for a year renewal, and not just on this Site, for 3 more.
I was able to get in my account with RF and change over the DNS info back to mine, not kowing if it will stay that way.
I have tried all the regular routes to contact RF in regards to this problem and my account, but to no avail! They do not answer the phones, or their E-mail, or their Support Tickets !
I have spent hours on the phone trying to get ahold of them.
I went to GO-Daddy to see how much it was going to cost to transfer the domains to them – almost $70.00 for 4 domains – BUT, they added into the transfer things I do not need or want, but was going to charge me anyway! I think this is herendous as well !
Where are all the honest Companies, and why doesn’t ICANN look into these Compaines with a Microscope ?
Bigfoot 03.26.07 at 11:09 pm
Another 8 escaped – over the weekend something seems to have started working at RF and domains are actually being released, even those with deleteProhibited status.
Tim G 03.27.07 at 8:34 am
Well, I should have anticipated this and made sure I took screen shots: Registerfly has deleted all my support tickets requesting unlocks of my domains. I.e. covering their butts, so they can pretend I never took any action. But my troubles with the interface still haven’t changed: I can’t unlock anything, and the domain with no authorization code still remains RRP.
tony 03.27.07 at 3:58 pm
Tim, I have had the same issues with being charged multiple times for renewals that didn’t happen, as well as having my support tickets dissappear. None of the lock/unlock/change domain info settings work for me either… my domain since 2001 expired today, what a pain!
Terry 03.27.07 at 9:27 pm
Hi,
This email address bounces back: transfers@icann.org
Is there another to request a forced transfer of domain names ?

Paul,
Any news on the 48 hourly updates – we’re now on the 29 March, the last posting is for the 20th here. Are they sending the details of domains transferred or not?
(BTW, I’ve managed to get out 20+ more including nearly all my .uk domains and .org ones. The .info ones seem stuck at present with multiple locks that RF can’t remove.)

actually, it’s not just that UnifiedNames as a company, should be taken out of market, but the people behind it, and who are the ones whoa actually give it any “behaviour”, should be in jail!
Let’s not get distracted following “corporations” and let’s put in jail the persons that are responsible for all this.

I know that lawyers are going to rain to initiate the pertinent litigations, in fact I do this not as much reason why the ICANN does with RegisterFly.com but so that of the thousands of lawyers that are going to want to represent my reclamation in the federal forums, they contact to fajil@coqui.net soyfajil@yahoo.com to me, they remember that I will take care of them according to the arrival order, know clearly that the list is long.
