It's nice to see you introducing more initiatives to communicate with the internet community.

I understand your argument but disagree with the sentiment.

If you attempt to avoid or restrict discussion in order to make it manageable, you remove the enormous value of having that discussion.

There is often a kernel of truth in what ICANN critics say, even if it is sometimes wrapped up in untrue or wild assertions. You can write off that criticism and so never get to the heart of the matter, or you can try to delve into the issue and hope that the need to draw conspiracies is diminished as the core problem is tackled.

I prefer the second approach.

I see where you're coming from Rafik.

It might be worth creating some wider-angle issue each month and summarise it with links to a longer explanation elsewhere on an ICANN site.

Ideally, someone in the community would do something and then I could link to it. People as a rule massively overestimate the time and resources ICANN staff have. I have also sorts of things I would love to do, but I simply don't have time.

Re: translation. We're working on a mechanism where the community can work on translations of ICANN material on ICANN's site. But it will be a while coming.

Re: creating a space. The problem with that is that it assumes people will consistently produce content worth reproducing and the reality is that they won't. The contributions vary widely from nothing at all one month to dozens of comments that misunderstand a fundamental point the next.

However it's a good point. I will keep a section open to link to interesting discussions on the ICANN blog and public participation site. So if there is something interesting, there will be a mechanism to draw attention to it.

Just signed up for the magazine.

One thing with the more open discussion is what I would call the "Icann haters". They will latch on to anything about Icann and start slamming away. Something to think about.

Hi Kieren,
for special topic, I think that can be a deep and clear description of ICANN mechanisms, Legal issues and ODR, the scope of meetings, the process of creation of new gTLD etc.
I think that ICANN has to advocate his position because there aren't only proponents (really there are many opponents) .
For language, it can be partly by volunteers who want to translate if it is possible because we cannot discussed about multilingualism and IDN , and the content remain only in one language!
For articles, it is possible to create a little space in addition to public comments for whom interested to write about something related to ICANN.

Hi Rafik,

No, there's no direct route into the magazine because it would be unmanageable, but this blog and the public participation site are continually monitored so if something crops up that is clearly of interest to those in the community, then it would most likely make its way into the magazine.

Re: special topic. If you have ideas please put them down. The whole point of the magazine is to be an interesting read for people that want to know what ICANN is doing. If have ideas for how to do that, please stick em down.

As for languages: ICANN is working on a system to make its material available quickly in different languages but at the moment neither the system or resources are in place so the content will be English only for the foreseeable future I am afraid.

hi,
I would like to know if it is possible for anyone to post article in this new magazine in addition to Public comment to talk about opinions?
My other question if the magazine will have a special topic every month for stressing some issues in particular?
the content will be only in English or in other?

regards
