تتاح خانة الأسئلة حتى يوم الأربعاء الموافق 17 يونيو في إطار عملية التحضير للمنتدى الدولي باجتماع ICANN العام الدولي بسيدني يوم الخميس الموافق 25 يونيو.

ICANN is becoming a more multilingual organization and in doing so has spent a year, with some expert help and plenty of useful feedback from the community, developing and implementing a translation programme.

We have now reached the stage where we need someone with sufficient expertise and experience to be able to oversee that programme as ICANN moves to making translation a part of its everyday processes and systems.

Hello. My name is Paul Twomey, and I’m the President and CEO of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers — or ICANN.

ICANN is an international, non-profit organization created in 1998 by the Internet community in response to a call from the United States government to coordinate a key part or what enables billions of computers and other devices worldwide to connect quickly and easily with one another and to share information between themselves.

It is very inconsiderate of five-sixths of the world to fail to speak English, but then we are reliably informed that they feel pretty much the same way.

And so while the Internet has done an extraordinary job of transcending physical borders, language remains a pretty significant issue if you want to actually communicate with your new online neighbour.

When it comes to ICANN’s work, this comes with an extra layer of complexity thanks to the fact that the vast majority of English speakers wouldn’t know what an English speaker was talking about when discussing many of the topics that concern ICANN on a day-to-day basis.
